Medical Tourism of Costa Rica was founded in 2005 by Richard Feldman, who spent most of his career as a hospital administrator in the US and as the director of operations of CIMA Hospital in San Jose. Serving around 15 patients a month, this agency boasts the usual health travel amenities, including assistance with airlines, hotels, tours, medical treatment, and surgical aftercare. A US$300 concierge fee covers these services, as well as 24/7 extras while the patient is in-country, including airport and in-town transportation, restaurant reservations, sightseeing tours, rental cars, cell phones, and travel insurance.
According to Feldman, the agency has sent more than 500 patients—mostly from the US—to Costa Rica for medical and dental care since it opened its doors. Treatment offerings are expanding to include general surgery, weight loss surgery, ophthalmology, orthopedics, and wellness/preventive care. Partnerships with hotels and resorts offer discounted rates and special amenities for this agency’s clients.
