Operating since 2005, Anadolu Medical Center (AMC) is a JCI-accredited hospital with 110 physicians and surgeons, 209 beds, eight operating rooms, and a large intensive care unit. Through its affiliation with Johns Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore, AMC's multilingual nurses and staff members receive training from the Johns Hopkins faculty.

The medical center's 42-acre (17-hectare) campus is home to treatment facilities, medical offices, and health-related retail stores—all well away from the hustle and bustle of Istanbul. The campus has earned praise for its architecture and location atop a hill bordered by woodlands and olive groves, a manmade pond, and a spectacular sea view. Outreach services are also provided at two satellite clinics in Istanbul (AMC Atasehir and AMC Suadiye).

AMC prides itself on its marriage of cutting-edge technology with a patient-friendly environment. CyberKnife is the latest radiosurgery technology in use. Linear accelerators with an IMRT system are also available for cancer treatment. The hospital utilizes state-of-the-art imaging technology, picture archiving and communication systems (PACS), telemedicine, and electronic recordkeeping.

AMC engages multidisciplinary teams of physicians to resolve complicated health problems. The Tumor Board, for instance, concentrates on precise diagnosis and effective treatment of patients who have cancer; other teams address back pain, cardiac arrhythmia, diabetes, and stroke.

For patients, physicians, and referring organizations seeking an objective assessment of available treatment options, the hospital provides a Medical Second Opinion Program, Diagnosis Confirmation Program, and Telemedicine Program. International patients can have cases reevaluated by AMC's specialists without traveling outside of their home country. After receiving the medical data by email, fax, or regular mail, the AMC physicians review the case and typically return a treatment plan and cost estimations within two or three days (sometimes longer in complicated cases). A high-tech video conferencing system enables collaboration with consulting physicians from other countries.

Each year AMC's International Patient Services Department facilitates more than 3,000 medical visits by patients from over 60 countries. The department's staff members answer questions and handle all arrangements, from medical consultations to the hospital stay. AMC provides free transportation from airports to local hotels and to medical appointments and treatment facilities. (Sabiha Gokcen International is the closest airport, located approximately 15 minutes away. Ataturk International Airport, on the European side of Istanbul, is about an hour away.) If arrangements are made in advance, VIP transportation service can be provided for patients and their traveling companions.

Patients and patients' families visiting AMC are welcome to stay at its on-campus guesthouse, comprising 29 standard rooms, two handicapped-access rooms, eight suites, and one executive suite.

I was looked after with affection and respect from the time I got here and was brought back to consciousness to my last day at the Center” Pedro García Ayala , Car accident
