Christus Muguerza Hospital (CMH) Alta Especialidad was established in 1935; it currently houses 200 patient beds. Although many physicians and staff members speak English, there is a dedicated, English-speaking team for international patients. The 32 physicians on this team are internationally trained. Together, the three Monterrey CMH facilities employ more than 2,500 credentialed, specialized physicians and surgeons and more than 700 nurses.

CMH Alta Especialidad treats approximately 15,000 inpatients and 38,000 outpatients each year. The most frequently performed procedures are hip replacement, knee replacement, bypass surgery, and spinal surgery. CMH Alta Especialidad specializes in cardiology and is the leading cardiac center in Latin America. Additional top specialties include orthopedics, neurosurgery, oncology, and neonatology.

A number of important providers of specialized medical equipment work with CMH centers to drive technology-adoption programs for Latin America. This program benefits patients with access to the latest equipment available, including Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Hemodynamic s GE Innova 3100 15, and 64-Slice Computer Tomography (GE LightSpeed VCT Series) for noninvasive cardiovascular imaging. The Elekta Linear Accelerator provides a precise treatment options for cancer patients. The recently acquired CyberKnife system offers patients an exceptionally precise, minimally invasive treatment option for inoperable or surgically complex tumors.

Affiliated with US-based hospital system CHRISTUS Health, CMH operates similarly to a US hospital network. The CHRISTUS Health system is ranked among the top ten largest Catholic health systems in the US and includes more than 40 hospitals and facilities in the US and Mexico. CMH is growing and expanding into rural areas. In eight years, two clinics in Monterrey were built and equipped, as well as a clinic in Zuazua, Nuevo León, a hospital in Tampamolón, and a clinic in Huichihuayán. Two new clinics, located in Coahuila and Chihuahua, are planned.

It was the price, and also when I looked at the facility and at the service component. That’s the problem with American hospitals, they have no service. They come across very sterile because of the way they have to handle things and be politically correct. The hospital I was at was very good. It seemed more sincere than the six major hospitals I’ve dealt with.... It’s different, their whole thing, the customer service. — Paul H., Texas, US
