E-Da Hospital opened its doors in 2004. Two hundred physicians and surgeons at this regional teaching hospital treat patients in a 1,246-bed facility that boasts impressive modern architecture and luxurious interior decor, complete with pianists performing in the lobby, light and water shows, art exhibits, and numerous cultural activities.
E-Da’s doctors specialize in minimally invasive surgeries, esophageal and voice reconstruction, total joint replacement, brachial plexus injury, hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), Gamma Knife radiosurgery, prostate laser surgery, sleep assessments, and cardiac catheterization. E-Da employs technologically advanced equipment, including Gamma Knife, 64-slice computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Chin-Kun Huang International Endoscopic Obesity Center is part of E-Da Hospital. Surgeons there perform mostly gastric bypass operations, with smaller numbers of LAP-BAND and sleeve gastrectomies. The cost of gastric bypass is about $16,000 including all travel costs, compared to about $30,000 in the US, according to E-Da representatives. The center is a member of the Asia Pacific Bariatric Surgery Society and the Inter-national Federation for the Surgery of Obesity.
E-Da’s International Service Center team offers advice on physicians and procedures, assistance with visa applications, and arrangements for local accommodations. Case managers offer email and teleconferencing communication with physicians, as well as assistance with local and international travel. An Internet platform is provided for Web-conferencing once patients return home.
