Florence Nightingale Group

Sisli Florence Nightingale Hospital

The Florence Nightingale Group (FNG) traces its history back to 1989, when Sisli Florence Nightingale Hospital was established under the auspices of the Turkish Cardiology Foundation. Three other hospitals have since been added to the group: Gayrettepe Florence Nightingale Hospital in 1997, and Kadikoy Florence Nightingale Hospital and Gokturk Florence Nightingale Medical Center in 2007. Sisli, Gayrettepe, and Kadikoy are accredited by JCI.

The Florence Nightingale hospitals share radiological and other diagnostic images using the newest picture archiving and communication technology. Fully equipped meeting centers enable participation in international conferences and hosting of meetings via direct satellite connections. Collectively, the group collaborates with several world-renowned medical schools and hospitals such as Baylor College of Medicine, Houston; Center for Cell Therapy and Cancer Immunotherapy, Tel Aviv; Columbia University Medical Center, New York; Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York; and Weill Medical College of Cornell University, New York.

The International Patient Department of any hospital in the Florence Nightingale Group can be contacted through a shared inquiry system. Special services for international patients include appointment scheduling, travel arrangement assistance, translation, direct admission, medical referrals and assistance before, during, and after hospitalization.

Gayrettepe Florence Nightingale Hospital was first JCI-accredited in 2003 and earned reaccreditation in 2006 and again in 2009. This 100-bed hospital offers inpatient and outpatient diagnosis and treatment facilities that include a fully equipped radiology department. Gayrettepe’s centers of excellence include

  • In Vitro Fertilization Unit and Infertility Treatment Unit, providing a full range of assisted reproduction services, from preimplantation genetic diagnosis to embryo freezing. In addition to classical IVF and microinjection, these units offer testicular sperm extraction (TESE) and aspiration (TESA), epididymal sperm aspiration (ESA), and microsurgical and percutaneous epididymal sperm aspiration (MESA and PESA).
  • Oncology Center, offering comprehensive, integrated medical and surgical oncology, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. IMRT is used to deliver higher levels of irradiation to cancerous tissue while avoiding healthy tissue. For some lung cancer cases, the Bronchoscopy Unit provides radiotherapy from inside the lung, a practice thought to shorten the treatment period, enhance treatment effectiveness, and reduce problems stemming from radiotherapy.
  • Robotic Surgery in Urology Unit, utilizing the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System to perform prostatectomies.
  • Kadikoy Florence Nightingale Hospital entered service in 2007 and attained JCI accreditation in 2009. The 74-bed hospital provides inpatient and outpatient services in all specialties. Among its facilities are diagnostic units, fully equipped radiology and angiography departments, a flat-detector x-ray system, treatment and emergency facilities, and several polyclinics. Kadikoy’s centers of excellence include

  • Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery Center, a polyclinic rendering services with modern technologies that include blood pressure and Holter monitoring, echocardiography, and treadmill testing. Angiography and bypass surgery are performed.
  • Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Center, treating muscular and skeletal diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, herniated discs, neck and back pain, sports injuries, and various problems in shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, and ankles.
  • Plastic Surgery Center, performing aesthetic surgery for obesity, breast reduction and replacement surgery, nose and facial reconstruction, and more.
  • When Sisli Florence Nightingale Hospital opened in 1989, it had a capacity of only 50 patient beds and performed only 250 open-heart surgeries annually. Today it operates as the largest private hospital in Turkey, where some 2,500 heart surgeries and 3,500 general surgeries are performed each year. The hospital was first JCI-accredited in 2004 and earned reaccreditation in 2007 and again in 2010. Sisli’s centers of excellence include

  • Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery-Angiography and Rhythm Disorders Center, with a 35-member surgical staff treating patients in 12 operating rooms and three procedure rooms. Over the last 20 years, Sisli has performed about 40,000 heart surgeries and 100,000 angiography, balloon angioplasty, coronary laser, permanent pacemaker, and stent procedures.
  • Organ Transplantation Center, in which 30 doctors, nurses, and technicians perform about 100 kidney and liver transplants annually (from both living and cadaver donors). The team also carries out studies on biliary tract, liver, and pancreatic diseases; removes tumors of the liver and pancreas; and treats tumors with radiofrequency ablation (RFA) when appropriate.
