Exterior view, Hospital Clínica Bíblica In 2008 Hospital Clínica Bíblica became the first hospital in Costa Rica and the second in all of Latin America to receive JCI accreditation. While it’s been around since 1929, don’t expect anything old-fashioned about its facilities or services.
Clínica Bíblica boasts a $50-million infrastructure (including a new $35-million hospital building) for 200 physicians who specialize in cardiology, cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, ophthalmology, orthopedics, and preventive medicine.
Doctors there also perform a large number of minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures, such as bariatric surgery, arthroscopy, hernia repair, prostatectomy, gall bladder removal, hernia repair, and colonoscopy. Many of the physicians are bilingual and US- or European trained. More than 20 percent of Clínica Bíblica’s patients are international travelers.
Clínica Bíblica’s International Department assists patients with all aspects of treatment planning. Each patient is assigned a personal Health Care Assistant (HCA) who works one-on-one to coordinate doctor contact, pre-procedure consultations, and surgical procedures; paperwork and price quotes; hospital admittance and bedside follow-up and assistance; contacts with family via phone or email post-surgery; VIP concierge services (superior-class lodging, transfers, and sightseeing tours); airport pickup/dropoff and assistance through immigration; recovery retreat and hotel accommodations; regular visits by a qualified nurse and staff; and patient follow-up back home.
Patients at Clínica Bíblica can expect to save as much as 70 percent on surgical cost compared to prices the US or Canada. For example, a knee replacement at a US hospital costs approximately $40,000; at Clínica Bíblica, the procedure (using the same equipment and techniques) costs $10,700.
Clinica Biblica was most recently awarded JCI accreditation in 2011.
