Hospital do Coracao

Hospital do Coracao translates as “Hospital for the Heart,” and that’s exactly what this treatment center is. Since its founding three decades ago, it has operated as a philanthropic institution providing cardiac care to needy infants and children. Its future plans call for expansion to become a major center for the treatment of cardiovascular illnesses in Latin America. It earned JCI accreditation in 2006.

Cardiology is not the only specialty on offer at Hospital do Coracao. Located in the Paraiso neighborhood of Sao Paulo, the hospital offers treatment in 37 medical specialties, including orthopedics, oncology, neurology, urology, gastroenterology, and general surgery. More than 700 physicians practice there. Hospital do Coracao was a pioneer in the performance of cardiac transplants and, in 1985, was the first in Brazil to perform a cardiopulmonary transplant.
