Hospital OCA was established in 1973 and now has 300 beds, with 2,000 physicians and surgeons, 500 nurses, and 150 staff. The Hospital treats 100,000 outpatients and 30,000 inpatients every year, of which 300 are international (95 percent from the US and Canada). Most frequently performed procedures are gall bladder removal, appendectomy, and radiotherapy. Some of the physicians and staff speak English.

Known for exceptional medical technology, OCA‘s nuclear medicine department has two of the most advanced gamma cameras: the INFINIA and the Xeleris II with a CT image processing system.

Other cutting-edge hospital equipment includes an ultrasound IU22 by Philips, an iE33 ultrasound, an Angiotac, 1.5T Intera magnetic resonance, an Achieva 3.0 T MR by Philips, and numerous digital x-rays. These innovations support diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases, cancer, heart and cardiovascular disorders, neurological abnormalities, and dysfunctions of the endocrine system.

OCA was the first hospital in Mexico to obtain a CT-PET scanner with a cyclotron. Philips Healthcare, GE Healthcare, and Miltenyi Biotech have approved OCA as a Center of Technological Excellence.

OCA was the first North American hospital to conduct laser diode spinal surgery, the first Latin American center to do single-session radiosurgery, and the only private hospital to perform the genetic coding of the H1N1 virus.

The affiliated Monterrey International Research Center (MIRC) focuses on development of new therapies for cancer treatment.
