Founded in 2005 by Costa Rican dental luminary Dr. Luis Obando, Nova Dental is located in the wealthy Americanized suburb of Escazu, just outside San Jose. Specialties center around cosmetic and restorative work, including implant dentistry and oral surgery (implants, bone grafts, sinus lifts); full mouth reconstruction (zirconium crowns, Emax crowns, hybrid bridge, dentures over implants); cosmetic work (veneers, smile makeover); and endodontics (root canals).
Four highly-credentialed specialists work with a staff of six, welcoming more than 400 new patients annually; 90% arrive from Canada or the United States. Nova Dental is one of the few dental clinics accredited by the renowned US-based Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care. Nova is also member of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, and is also affiliated with New York University College for Dentistry. The affiliation is for training.
In addition to the expected state-of-the-art offices, Nova has digital x-rays which reduce the amount of radiation in 80%, microscope-enhanced dentistry and digital panoramic equipment which greatly aids patient and doctor alike particularly with complex root canal, bone graft and reconstructive work.
All dentists at Nova Dental are fluent in English as well as Spanish. International patient services include help with travel plans, airport and local transportation as needed, booking of nearby hotels and recovery resorts (unique to Costa Rica!) and recommendations of side trips for patients and companions.
