Contemplating a facelift and rhinoplasty—but not initially the cost— after a recent divorce this New Zealand retail manager eventually settled on KPJ's Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital (APSH) to handle her treatments.
“Too much exposure to the sun and wind had caused my skin to age and wrinkle. Recently divorced, it was time to reclaim me. I felt so young inside, but my face looked old and tired, and I thought, why shouldn't I have a facelift if it meant I could look good again?”
Within a month of her first informational search, she was in Kuala Lumpur. “I told everyone in New Zealand I was having surgery, and many told me I was mad! I certainly didn't feel it was any more risky having the operation in Kuala Lumpur than in New Zealand.”
“The staff at Ampang Puteri Hospital were so very good, and I felt safe and cared for. I was quite relaxed before surgery (just really hungry) and felt really positive that the outcome would be good.
Saving approximately 50 percent of what it would cost at home, Louise’s cost came to just $11,000 including surgery, post-operative care, comfortable accommodations, and 13 days in Malaysia.
Louise spent the next three days recuperating quietly. “Just sleeping, eating, and watching movies! I felt tired and headachy but only needed Panadol. My delightful nurse Hafsah visited each day to take wonderful care of me. She even bought me some yummy local food.
“I started having saunas twice a day and caught up with some of the other clients there.” One Saturday, Louise organized a lunch get-together, and enjoyed hearing the other clients’ stories. Had a good look around the exciting city of Kuala Lumpur and, yes, like everyone, enjoyed the shopping.
Louise was satisfied with the reactions of her friends and family when she came home. “As each day has passed, I think the stretched look has eased and my face has softened to a more natural look, which I really love. I am so pleased I did this. It certainly is a life-changing experience. No more wrinkles and saggy jowls. Yay! And at half the price I would have had to pay in New Zealand."

Before Leaving the Hospital: Get All the Paperwork
Impatient to be gone, and often suffering the woozy side effects of surgery and post-operative pharmaceuticals, patients too often find themselves back at home later, missing important documents that could have more easily been obtained on site. So before you hightail it out of your hospital or clinic, be sure that you have all of your important documents.
Generally, larger hospitals provide complete medical documentation as part of the standard exit procedure. However, some smaller clinics may rely more on verbal instructions, and they are less likely to build and maintain a dossier on your case.
